General Questions
4 questionsWhat is ACE Checklist Editor?
The ACE Checklist Editor is the premier Aviation Checklist Editor - the only iOS app for creating or updating a checklist in the .ace format used by Garmin G1000, G3X Touch, and GTN Checklist function. It enables pilots to customize Garmin Pilot Checklist entries directly on their iPhone or iPad without needing Windows software.
Can I work on checklists without internet access?
Yes. You can create, edit, preview, and export checklists without an internet connection. iCloud sync resumes automatically when your device is back online.
Can I use this app with my specific aircraft model?
Yes! ACE Checklist Editor works with any aircraft that uses Garmin avionics supporting .ace files. You can create custom checklists for any aircraft type, from light sport aircraft to complex twins. The app includes templates for common aircraft but allows complete customization for your specific configuration.
Is this app FAA approved?
ACE Checklist Editor is a tool for creating checklists, not an FAA-approved checklist itself. The checklists you create should always be verified against your aircraft's official Pilot Operating Handbook (POH) and any applicable STCs. The app helps you digitize and organize your approved procedures.
Compatibility
4 questionsWhich Garmin devices support the GTN Checklist function?
The Garmin Aviation Checklist Editor supports all Garmin avionics with .ace checklist capability, perfect for putting checklist in G3X Touch panels. Compatible devices include: G3X Touch, G1000, G2000, G3000, G5000, GTN 650/750 series (GTN Checklist function requires software 5.13+), and how to create a checklist to use on the aera 795 or aera 796, plus GPSMAP 695/696.
Does it work with flight simulators?
Yes! Your custom checklists work perfectly in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020 & 2024) and X-Plane with Garmin-equipped aircraft. Simply export your .ace file and place it in the appropriate simulator folder. This is great for practicing procedures before flying.
What iOS versions are required?
ACE Checklist Editor requires iOS 18.0 or later for iPhone and iPadOS 18.0 or later for iPad. The app is optimized for the latest iOS features including enhanced privacy, improved performance, and modern UI elements.
Can I use this with ForeFlight or Garmin Pilot?
While ACE Checklist Editor creates .ace files specifically for Garmin avionics, you can export your checklists as PDF files for use in ForeFlight, Garmin Pilot, or any other EFB app. The app also supports plain text export for maximum compatibility.
Features & Usage
5 questionsHow do I transfer checklists to my aircraft?
Simply export your checklist as an .ace file to an SD card (FAT32 formatted), then insert the SD card into your Garmin avionics. Navigate to the checklist import function on your Garmin device and select your custom checklist. The entire process takes less than a minute.
Can I color-code emergency items?
ACE Checklist Editor supports color-coding for emergency and caution items within the .ace file format. However, the actual display of colors depends on your specific Garmin avionics model and software version. Most modern Garmin systems (G1000, G3X Touch) will display emergency items in red and caution items in yellow, but older units may show all items in the same color. Check your specific avionics documentation for color display capabilities.
Does the app work offline?
Absolutely! ACE Checklist Editor works completely offline. No internet connection is required to create, edit, or export checklists. This means you can work on your checklists in the hangar, at the airport, or anywhere without worrying about connectivity.
Can I share checklists with other pilots?
Yes! You can share your checklists via AirDrop, email, or any file sharing method. Other pilots with ACE Checklist Editor can import your checklists directly. You can also export to PDF for pilots who don't have the app.
How do I organize checklists by phase of flight?
The app allows you to create sections for each phase of flight (Preflight, Engine Start, Taxi, Takeoff, Cruise, Descent, Landing, Shutdown, Emergency). Within each section, you can add unlimited items and reorder them with drag-and-drop for logical flow.
Technical Support
5 questionsMy checklist won’t import to my Garmin device
First, ensure your SD card is formatted as FAT32 (not exFAT or NTFS). Second, verify the .ace file is in the correct folder structure (usually /Garmin/checklists/). Third, check that your Garmin software is up to date. If issues persist, contact our support team with your specific Garmin model.
How do I backup my checklists?
Your checklists automatically backup to iCloud when connected to WiFi. You can also manually export all checklists to the Files app or email them to yourself. We recommend keeping a backup copy of critical checklists in multiple locations.
Can I import existing .ace files?
Yes! If you have existing .ace files from other sources, you can import them directly into ACE Checklist Editor. Simply open the .ace file from Files, email, or AirDrop, and it will automatically import into the app for editing.
The app crashes when I try to export
This is rare but can happen with very large checklists. Try: 1) Force quit and restart the app, 2) Ensure you have sufficient storage space, 3) Update to the latest app version. If the issue persists, contact support+snow-tree-platform-1-issue-@gitlab.snow-tree.com with details about your checklist size.
How do I sync between iPhone and iPad?
Ensure both devices are signed into the same iCloud account and have iCloud Drive enabled for ACE Checklist Editor. Changes sync automatically when connected to WiFi. You can force a sync by pulling down to refresh on the checklist list screen.
Privacy & Security
3 questionsWhat data does the app collect?
None! ACE Checklist Editor collects absolutely zero user data. No analytics, no tracking, no crash reports sent to external servers. Your checklists and usage patterns stay completely private on your device. We don't even know you're using the app.
Is my checklist data secure?
Yes! All data is stored locally on your device using iOS's built-in encryption. If you use iCloud sync, data is encrypted in transit and at rest using your personal iCloud account. We have no access to your checklists or any other data.
Can Snow Tree see my checklists?
No. We have designed the app with zero server communication. Your checklists never leave your device except when you explicitly export them or sync via your personal iCloud account. We couldn't see your data even if we wanted to.
